The last couple weeks have been pretty busy for me. Lots of stringent work deadlines, I got braces (more on that later), and I've been trying to do some spring cleaning, though I will admit that this time has turned into the time where I crawl in my bed and watch episodes of old 90s TV shows on Netflix. It only took me a year, but I finally finished Cheers!
As far as Woody's concerned, he's still cooped up due to the snow. He will be going to Camp Bow Wow this weekend to burn of some steam because he is starting to get pretty stir-crazy. While he hasn't been having the accidents all over the place like he did last winter, this pent up energy really has shown when people have visited the apartment in the last couple months. Normally he gets a little anxious but this anxiety is starting to cross over into the aggression territory. While I have a much better handle on how to read his energy than I did this time last year, I don't want to take any chances. So, he will be going to Camp Bow Wow every time I have guests in the home until it's warm enough to go on our walks. One thing I did want to share was this cute blog post titled 15 Important Truths Dog Owners Must Never Forget. I've seen lists like this before, but this one really brought it home for me for some reason. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Warning: This commercial contains cuteness overload! Budweiser's latest emotional Super Bowl ad tugs at the heartstrings yet again. The ad has been circulating on the Internet today so I figured I'd share. I will admit that I have not watched it yet, simply because I still like to be surprised by the creativity of the commercials during the big game. However, after reading the descriptions of this, I can pretty much guarantee I will be a sobbing mess when this one airs. About a week and a half ago, Woody had a follow-up appointment for his skin allergies and I decided to videotape his disdain, as I do with pretty much everything that upsets him. Woody enjoyed having the boy and myself around all day today. I think this picture says it all. I hope everyone else's fur kids enjoyed a day off from staying home alone as well! Woody had an exceptionally nice weekend since he got to spend Friday through Sunday at Camp Bow Wow. Next time I take him, I'll be sure to post a video of how insane he gets when I say those three words. Stay tuned...
Today is National Dog Day, a day to honor our beloved canines and raise awareness for the massive number of dogs in shelters awaiting a permanent home. National Dog Day began in 2004, but I didn't hear of it until recently. Below is my National Dog Day photo that I posted on Instagram earlier today. This photo was taken the other morning and pretty much depicts the face I see hovering over me every morning. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Earlier this week, a coworker sent me a Wall Street Journal article titled Why Pet Dogs are as Good as Kids (Maybe a Little Better). The article discusses all the obvious reasons why dogs rule, such as the unconditional love, the inability to talk back, and, the most important aspect (and why I decided to start this blog in the first place), how much smarter dogs are than we actually think. Below is an excerpt from the article, discussing how dogs and infants are able to identify objects through gestures, even with no knowledge or expression of verbal language: Every dog owner has helped a dog find a lost ball or stick by pointing in the right direction. It’s easy to take for granted the way dogs effortlessly interpret this simple gesture, but this ability is remarkable. Not only do dogs understand the meaning behind the point in a similar way to human infants, they are using the social information of a completely different species. I already believe Woody is one of the smartest dogs alive and this proves how much impact behavioral modification, even at the most basic level, can help humans and dogs understand each other. In the spirit of St. Patrick's Day, I can tell you that one thing I understand most about Woody is how much he loves beer. By no means do I let Woody get tanked, but I definitely give him beer-flavored, non-alcoholic treats once in awhile. I'm sure he'll be waiting for the luck of the Irish to grant him a spill or two Sunday. This was a selfie of him last year trying to destroy a teddy bear. No matter what you do or how you celebrate, make sure you have a safe St. Patrick's Day and try to include your furry friends. They're smart enough to know how much fun this day can be.
